- "LA CITE DES REVES : NEW YORK, UNE HISTOIRE DE 400 ANS" (City of Dreams : The 400-Year Epic History of Immigrant New York) by Tyler ANBINDER and Published in FRANCE by Perrin Editions. Although Most Americans take Pride in being “˜A Nation of Immigrants´, the Process of Immigration causes Perennial Controversy in the United States. That is True even in New York City, which would not exist without it, and which stars in Many Historical Narratives of it.

The Book does not attempt to trace Native American Migration into Manhattan. Otherwise, it begins as early as it could, with Peter Minuit, a French-Speaking Walloon born in what is now Germany, sailing in 1625 under the Flag of the Dutch West India Company. Even in its First Four Decades, New Amsterdam invited a Heterogeneous Population.
In Publishing as in Politics, Timing is Everything. Tyler Anbinder´s sweeping “City of Dreams : The 400-Year Epic History of Immigrant New York“ scores big on both counts. A Richly textured Guide to the History of U.S Immigrant Nation´s Pinnacle Immigrant City has managed to enter the Stage during an Election Season that has resurrected this Historically Fraught Topic in all its Fierceness. The Writer, a Professor of History at George Washington University and the Author of Two Previous Books on Early American History, rightly avoids drawing Explicit Lessons for Today´s Controversies from the Past. The Two Previous Books were : "Five Points : The Nineteenth-Century New York City Neighborhood That Invented Tap Dance, Stole Elections and Became the World's Most Notorious Slum" and "Ativism and Slavery : The Northern Know Nothings and the Politics of the 1850s".
"L'IMPOSSIBLE PROHIBITION - DROGUES ET TOXICOMANIE EN FRANCE 1945-2017" (The Impossible Prohibition - Drugs & Substance Addiction in France 1945-2017) by Alexandre MARCHANT and Published in FRANCE by Perrin Editions. In France, Drug Abuse among the Young Population first appeared at the End of the Sixties. Repressive and Therapeutic Measures were then combined and Specific Sanitary Structures set up. The Author describes the Historical and Social Backgrounds of this Phenomenon and review the Sources of Relevant Statistical Information Records of Offenses against the Drug Law ; Statistics of Special Care Centres ; Epidemiological Studies on Confirmed Drug Addicts... These Sources are Various and the Approaches Quite Different.
It should address the Use of Illicit and Licit Substances (Narcotics, Alcohol, Tobacco, Psychotropic Medicines and New Synthetic Substances) and Non-Substance-Related Addictive Behaviours (Gambling, Gaming, Doping). It should have Five Main Priorities :
* Promoting Prevention, Care and Risk Reduction
* Stepping Up the Fight against Trafficking
* Improving the Application of the Law
* Basing Policies for combating Drugs and Addictive Behaviours on Research and Evaluation Studies
* Reinforcing Coordination at the National and International Levels.
